First off I want to say that I spent years playing the old AvP games that were out back in the day (2000? 2002-ish?). They were really fun games and were really easy to play. This game has the same characters, yes, but is VERY different. You cannot play the old one well and expect to play this one well at all. AvP single player comes across, to me at least, as a strange mix of FPS and arcade. The maps are very linear and those I've played have essentially been long winding corridors (if you strip away the trees etc.). The original AvP's were linear but seemed more open and less limiting in scope. AvP 3 is pretty cramped in comparison, and as such feels kind of dated in the approach Rebellion took. Adding to that, the gameplay is where things kind of fall apart. The defend and respond approach that makes multiplayer so much fun, makes the single player game frustrating.
